Description
The BMC AC02 starts with the idea that you’re loading cargo onto the bike, not your back. This decision informs the geometry, tube shaping and even the components. There are gears low enough for climbing mountains. And big enough for railing the other side.
Because weight needs to be distributed between the wheels, the wheelbase is lengthened. Likewise, the head angle is relaxed, the fork rake increased. The longer fork has the secondary benefit of adding vertical compliance to the front end. The longer stays in back likewise add compliance to the rear.
The bike isn’t quite as flickable as the AC01. But the greater stability has its advantages. One word to sum up the advantages: versatility. It’s easier to ride when half-asleep. Weighing the bike down doesn’t mean you need to be overly attentive to weight distribution. Take it to the grocery store for a full-shop. Take it touring. Put on a baby seat and take a kid, possibly your own, to school.
